This idea has formed over many years and today, more than ever, seems the most responsible answer to the urgent need for waste recycling.
Often when people visit the PLAY factory and we explain how the production process and machinery works, we show them how all production waste is ground down and reduced to granules to be reused as raw material.
Every time we see looks of pleasant surprise. It is actually a normal thing for us, we have been doing it forever, because it represents a considerable saving, it is easy and convenient.
EASY because we have the necessary equipment to recycle in-house.
CONVENIENT because every kg recycled is a kg saved.
When we buy components from external manufacturers we only choose local suppliers. The real reason is that we love to have a direct and personal relationship with our collaborators. We learn about their production processes, their new technologies, we exchange and develop new ideas.
Because of our philosophy of making things locally, when we cannot recycle special components such as eg. fibreglass, we fill a box with discarded fibreglass and take it in our van to the manufacturing company, which is only 4 km away. They are equipped and certified to recycle fibreglass, because it is their business.
The same happens with PVC ball shells which, if thrown in the rubbish will surely be incinerated releasing dangerous pollutants, but our collaborators buy them back from us at a market price, reduce it to granules and reuse it 100%.
Basically all the materials we use can be 100% recycled, but you need the right resources. And that is the whole point of the PHOENIX PROJECT - what for you would be very time consuming and complicated, if not impossible, for us is normal and in addition saves us money.
By launching this initiative we decided to give a real economic value to each returned item by turning it into a discount on the purchase of new props.
And to close the loop… since 2010 all PLAY props are manufactured using exclusively solar energy produced by our solar panels, and when our plants can't cope on their own, we purchase energy produced exclusively from renewable sources.
